UEFA Super Cup: Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt Match Preview And Prediction - 10/08/2022

This is Frankfurt’s maiden Super Cup appearance, having never previously qualified for the clash between the champions of Europe’s biggest club competitions.

Real Madrid have featured in seven Super Cup showdowns – winning four (2002, 2014, 2016, 2017) and losing three (1998, 2000, 2018).

The booked their place in the 2022 UEFA Super Cup with a phenomenal Champions League triumph last season.

After winning five of their six group games, Los Blancos dispatched PSG (3-2), Chelsea (5-4) and Manchester City (6-5) in the knockout phase – before beating Liverpool (1-0) in the final.

Let’s not forget that Real Madrid also won the La Liga title last term, losing just four of their 38 games to finish 13 points clear of second-place Barcelona.

Having secured a memorable La Liga-Champions League double last season, it is no surprise that Carlo Ancelotti’s side are heavy favourites to triumph in Helsinki.

Eintracht Frankfurt punched their ticket to the Super Cup via the Europa League – claiming their second title after winning the UEFA Cup in 1979/80.

They enjoyed an unbeaten group stage, picking up three wins and three draws. After that, they dispatched Real Betis (3-2), Barcelona (4-3) and West Ham (3-1), before beating Rangers on penalties.

However, the Eagles endured a below-par domestic campaign – winning just ten of their 34 Bundesliga games to finish twelfth.

Unlike Real Madrid, Frankfurt’s domestic duties have already started this season. Unfortunately, they head into the Super Cup on the back of a 6-1 thrashing to Bayern Munich.

Head-To-Head: The first and only competitive meeting between Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt came in the final of the 1959/60 European Cup.

Los Blancos crushed the Eagles 7-3 on that occasion, with Stein bagging a brace, Di Stefano netting a hat-trick and Puskas scoring four!

Team News: Aurélien Tchouameni and Antonio Rudiger are in line to make their competitive debuts for Real Madrid on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Frankfurt will be without the injured defensive duo of Aurelio Buta (knee surgery) and Jerome Onguene (thigh muscle strain).

PREDICTION: Real Madrid To Triumph.
