UEFA Champions League: Bayern München vs FC Barcelona - Matchday Two 13/09/2022
Both clubs will be looking to take control of Group C when they go head-to-head in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
Bayern München head into Matchday 2 on the back of a 2-2 draw with Stuttgart, despite racking up 68% possession and 19 shots on Saturday. Although the German champions have yet to taste defeat this season, they have drawn each of their previous three Bundesliga games.
It is worth noting, however, that Bayern have scored 19 goals in six Bundesliga outings this season, conceding just five times in the process. Having chalked up 56% possession and 21 shots in last week’s 2-0 victory over Inter, the Bavarians will be confident of getting the better of Barcelona on home soil.
Barcelona thrashed Cadiz 4-0 at the weekend, with second-half goals from Frenkie de Jong, Robert Lewandowski, Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele. Having netted a hat-trick in Barca’s 5-1 thrashing of Viktoria Plzen, Lewandowski has now scored nine goals in six games since moving from Bayern.
Thanks largely to Lewandowski’s exploits, Barcelona have scored over 2.5 goals in each of their past five competitive games and over 3.5 in four of their previous five. Better still, Xavi’s side have conceded a solitary goal in five La Liga games this term, picking up four wins and one draw in the process.
Head-to-Head: Bayern München and Barcelona have faced each other on 11 occasions in the Champions League. Bayern have claimed eight wins, while Barca have claimed two. The Germans claimed two 3-0 victories over the Spaniards last season, meaning they have won each of the past four meetings.
Team News:
Bayern München will be without Kingsley Coman on Tuesday, as the French winger continues to recover from a hamstring injury.
Barcelona will be without Sergi Roberto. It goes without saying that Lewandowski will be eager to lead the line against his former club.
PREDICTION: OVER 3.5 MATCH GOALS TO BE EXPECTED.
