With no World Cup this summer due to the event being played in Qatar, clubs can use the time to make their moves in the transfer market.
While a lot of the recent talk has been about the money involved in Erling Haaland’s transfer to Manchester City and Kylian Mbappe staying at Paris Saint-Germain, there are some big-name players available for nothing.
Perhaps the most valuable player available for free this summer is Paul Pogba. The Manchester United midfielder is unlikely to remain at Old Trafford having not hit the heights expected of the French international during his second spell at the club.
The World Cup winner is rumoured to be making a return to Juventus and at 29 years of age, he still has plenty to offer at the highest level.
A couple of players who could be leaving Italian football for free are Franck Kessié and Paulo Dybala. Kessie has been a good signing for AC Milan and has played a significant role in their title charge this season. The Ivory Coast international has plenty of admirers across Europe and at 25, he will be entering his prime. Dybala has not been firing on all cylinders in recent years at Juventus.
The Argentine forward has had some injury problems to contend with and is out of contract in the summer. Dybala is unlikely to remain at Juventus and there have been rumours of a potential deal with Inter Milan.
However, several English Premier League clubs are also said to be interested and if he can return to his best form, Dybala could be one of the signings of the summer.
Ousmane Dembélé is another player who has endured his fair share if injury problems over the last few years. His contract is about to run out at Barcelona and Dembélé will be free to speak to clubs outside of Spain in June.
Dembélé has been injury prone but when he is fit and firing, he is one of the best at creating goals in Spain. He has recorded 13 assists in 20 appearances in La Liga this season, which is a fantastic record.
Any team in Europe would be delighted with that return and if Dembélé can add a few goals to his game, he would be a tremendous signing. Bayern Munich and Chelsea have been linked with the Frenchman.
Alexandre Lacazette is set to leave the Emirates this summer. Having recently turned 30, there are still plenty of goals in the former Lyon man and he could be set to return to France this summer. Lacazette has been strongly linked with a move to Lyon and should score plenty of goals in Ligue 1 next season.
Some of the other players who could be available for nothing this summer include Andrea Belotti, Boubacar Kamara, James Tarkowski, Noussair Mazraoui, Ángel Di María, Christian Eriksen, Corentin Tolisso, and Federico Bernardeschi.
For those clubs who do not want to spend big on transfer fees, there are some bargains to be had in the upcoming transfer window.
