Manchester City vs Manchester United Match Preview And Prediction 06/03/2022
The Manchester Derby headlines Sunday’s Premier League schedule, as Manchester City welcome arch-rivals Manchester United to the Etihad Stadium.
Fourth-place Manchester United trail league-leaders Man City by 19 points. Ralf Rangnick’s men also find themselves two points ahead of West Ham and Arsenal. Manchester City currently hold a six-point lead over second-place Liverpool. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side have a game in hand over the defending champions.
The Cityzens head into Sunday’s showdown on the back of a comfortable midweek FA Cup victory over Peterborough, thanks to goals from Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish. As a result, Man City have won six of their previous seven outings across all competitions – having suffered a 3-2 defeat to Tottenham last month.
When you look at the bigger picture, Pep Guardiola’s men have lost just one of their last 16 matches in all competitions. Given that City have only lost six of their past 45 home games, they will be confident of adding another win to their tally this weekend.
That said, Man Utd come into Sunday’s derby on a six-game unbeaten streak – having picked up two wins and four draws since losing to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup. They have also lost just one of their past 15 Premier League outings, notching eight wins and six draws along the way.
It is worth pointing out that both teams have scored in each of United’s previous six away games across all competitions. Although the Red Devils have registered just nine defeat in the last 59 Premier League games, their recent record against Man City isn’t pretty.
Head-to-head: Man Utd have only managed to win one of their last four meetings with Man City, suffering two defeats in the process. The Red Devils have also managed to win just four of the previous 11 Manchester showdowns in the Premier League.
Team News: Cole Palmer is Man City’s only injury absentee at the moment, meaning Guardiola has countless world-class options to choose from.
On the flip side, Man Utd will be without the injured Edinson Cavani on Sunday. Scott McTominay is also a doubt due to illness.
Although Man Utd have made some improvements under Rangnick, they aren’t likely to disrupt Man City’s title charge this weekend.
