LIGUE 1: AS Monaco vs Lyon Match Preview And Prediction 05/02/2022
The French top flight action continues on Saturday night when Monaco take on Lyon at the Stade Louis II with both teams keen to further their ambitions of a top five finish in Ligue 1.
Monaco currently occupy 8th place in the Ligue 1 standings and a point behind their visitors following a 3-2 loss away from home at Montpellier last time out, so Monaco will be keen to return to the more familiar surroundings of home soil this weekend.
Despite also losing away at PSG earlier, Monaco have produced some impressive displays at home in recent times as the hosts are unbeaten in their last eight games and have picked up six wins during this period.
The bigger picture also gives Monaco a fair amount of confidence here as the hosts have lost just three of their last 22 matches on home soil which includes 13 victories but one of the defeats was to Saturday’s visitors, Lyon, who recorded a 3-2 win at the Stade Louis II back in May of last year.
Lyon moved up into 7th place in the French top flight and level on points with 5th placed Rennes after picking up another valuable three points with a 2-1 home win against 3rd placed Marseille.
Lyon certainly laid down a marker with that recent victory which became the visitors’ third league win on the trot and also extended their unbeaten run in Ligue 1 to seven games. Lyon are also unbeaten in their last four games on the road which includes wins at 6th placed Montpellier and lowly Troyes along with picking up points in draws with Bordeaux and Lille.
The visitors have made themselves a tough unit to beat in recent times as four draws and three wins have seen Lyon move slowly but steadily up the domestic top flight table while the bigger picture shows Lyon have suffered just the three losses in their last 16 matches overall.
Just four defeats in their last 27 outings on their travels in Ligue 1 suggest that Lyon could be stubborn opponents for Monaco on Saturday night especially as Lyon have won the previous two meetings on the trot against their hosts and have lost just once in their last five encounters overall.
PREDICTION: LYON TO WIN OR DRAW
