Erik Ten Hag Needs Time To Turn Things Around At Manchester United Says Football Pundits
One of the biggest coaching jobs in the English game is at Manchester United. The Red Devils are one of the most successful clubs in Europe when it comes to trophies, history and prestige.
However, since the retirement of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, many head coaches have come to Manchester and failed to succeed. That list of coaches includes the likes of Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal, who have proven to be adept at picking up silverware in their illustrious careers.
The next man in the United hot seat is highly-rated Dutch boss Erik ten Hag, who has built a stellar reputation at Ajax. His team’s attacking style of play has been one of the main reasons he is so highly rated.
However, those expecting Ten Hag to come in and wave a magic wand and transform United are in for a rude awakening. The Dutchman’s arrival will not solve all United’s problems in one summer, although he will likely improve things on the pitch at Old Trafford.
He will no doubt want players that know his style of play, which is likely why the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Jurrien Timber and Antony have all been linked with moves to Old Trafford. All three had previously starred for Ten Hag in Amsterdam. The group of players that the new United boss has inherited will take time to adjust to his style. There will also be inevitable exits this summer as the club try to reshape a squad that is not the greatest in the world.
The Red Devils finished sixth in the Premier League last season. Arguably, if United manage a top-four finish next season, that will be a successful campaign. It will take time and patience from the club's hierarchy and fans to get United back to the pinnacle of the English game.
